Common Types of Storms and the Damage They Cause

Smart building owners know that simply paying attention to the weather can help them keep their buildings in good condition. Every time of storm that comes through town can cause different types of damage, including wind damage, hurricane damage, ice damage and general storm damage that requires storm restoration. Some damage may require a complete home restoration, water restoration or storm remediation. Those owners can look over some of the common types of damage caused by these storms.

Winter Storms

Those living in tropical climates never need to worry about winter storms, but those in other parts of the world need to worry about ice damage like ice damming. Ice damming commonly forms large pieces of ice that hang down from both the gutters and the roof. An ice dam may look harmless, but it can cause certain types of roof damage. A single ice dam can poke through the roof to cause a roof leak, tear the gutters off the roof or leave behind holes in wood or vinyl siding.

Winter storms can also cause frozen pipes. Those frozen pipes are even worse than ice damming because the pipes can burst as soon as the temperature starts rising. Any flooding caused by frozen pipes will require the use of a flood pump to remove that water. A flood pump works well as removing water due to river flooding too.

River Flooding

The most common problem facing those who own buildings located near rivers is river flooding. River flooding can occur anytime that the water in the river rises so high that it flows over the banks. While flood water can be an example of clean water, the ground water it brings with it can be dirty in nature. That ground water may carry bacteria with it or even sewer. Drying techniques and using a flood pump will remove all that ground water, and other methods can help with the storm remediation.

Hurricanes

Hurricanes like Irene and Andrew showed that hurricane damage can be quite significant. In addition to hurricane damage, these storms can cause wind damage that rips shingles from roofs and causes a serious roof leak and send flood water through a building. Roof repair experts can do a thorough inspection to determine how serious the storm damage and hurricane damage was, if the building suffered any hail damage and what methods will work best in the process of storm remediation.

Flooding and Other Storm Damage

The problem with roof damage is that it is almost impossible to see that roof damage without actually being on the roof. Home restoration and water restoration professionals have the equipment needed to get up on the building and do the roof repair. The roof repair needed after storm damage or wind damage can include replacing missing shingles, fixing a broken gutter or other things that will stop a roof leak. They can also determine whether there is any hurricane damage or flood water on the roof that requires storm remediation.

An ice dam, ice damming and frozen pipes are just some of the problems that require home restoration after a winter storm. Water restoration experts can determine the severity of the flooding, look for any signs of hail damage, get a flood pump out to the property and perform a total home restoration. Storm restoration companies receive calls from commercial and residential property owners each year who need help with water restoration work because of flooding, ice damming and hurricane damage.

As soon as property owners see any storm damage, wind damage or roof damage, they can call about a roof leak or a roof repair. They may call because they see flood water or ground water after a storm caused ice damage or hail damage. Those owners can get storm restoration help that involves both water restoration and home restoration from a company with access to tools like a water pump and experience dealing with an ice dam, hail damage, ice damage, storm restoration and total storm remediation.
